From my morning readings - Psalm 46
Be still, and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10)
Be still...
I need to stop. Cease from activity. Bring quietness to my life. I just need to pause and bring my life to a standstill.
Be still and stop fighting...
God, that's not fair.
God, I expected more.
God, how come You didn't do something.
God, why?
Be still and know...
God, I know You are present.
God, I know You are working.
God, I know You are in control.
God, I know You are working Your plan.
God, I know You love me.
God, I know You are good to me.
Lord, I want to be still and discover You in the midst of many of the things I fight against. Lord I want to be still in the midst of discomfort. Lord I choose to be still in my pain. Lord I elect to be still when I meet opposition. Lord I will decide to be still in the midst of struggle.
I confess I often do the opposite. I often complain, express my displeasure, and fight my circumstances. My significant energy expenditures and the accompanying noise prevent me from ever hearing, seeing, or experiencing You.
Help me to be still and know, rest, and marvel in You being God!
